InfoMagic "Games for Daze"
1 June 1995
Welcome to "Games for Daze", the finest collection of ready to run
games and both general and game programming source code for MS-DOS
available anywhere. Everything on these CD's has been unzipped and
is "ready-to-run".
This CD set has been prepared in collaboration with the maintainer of
the "x2ftp" archive in Finland (Jouni Miettunen) and represents the
first and *only* authorized release of that archive on CD-ROM. If
there was any question about the redistributability of any package we
did not include it. Every file has been virus scanned and all games
have been checked to insure that they actually work.
If you have any games, or know of any games that we should include on
future releases of this set, please contact us as shown below.
If you have written a game that is included on this CD set and you do
not want us to distribute it on future releases please contact us at
the numbers below.
The "x2ftp" archive contains carefully selected programming samples,
documentation, book reviews and some hardware specs. It also has
some ready to run applications including NeoPaint an excellent bitmap
editor, which again is included with the explicit permission of its
authors. The Intel Indeo files were provided us by the development
group at Intel.
The demos of the games from Interplay are provided under license from
Interplay and may not be redistributed without their express
permission.
We have provided a DOS mode graphical browser for accessing the files
on this CD set. The program is called "intercd" and copies are
present in the root directories of both CD's. It may be used to
search the index files that are provided in each subdirectory as well
as, either execute or copy files from the CD's to a directory on the
hard disk, or browse the documentation files provided with many of
the packages. InterCD was written specifically for this CD set by
Jouni Miettunen using some of the code samples and graphics libraries
included in the "x2ftp" archive ! InterCD can be run directly from
the CD, or copied to any directory on your hard disk and run from
there.
The file "publishr.lst" on disc1 contains the names, addresses, and contact
information for all of the game publishers whose products appear on this CD
set.
In addition to the packages mentioned above we have included the complete
distribution of D. J. Delorie's port of GNU C/C++ for MS-DOS. This compiler
produces 32-bit protected mode executables. It includes a number of the GNU
utilities (make, flex, bison, etc). We have also included the "MS-DOS gnuish"
ports of some other GNU utilities. As with all the other packages on these
CD's, DJGPP and the "gnuish" utilities are provided unzipped and ready to run.
Please see the "roadmap" at the end of this file for the layout of the 2 CD's.
Many of the packages on this CD set are shareware and as such are covered by
the following terms and conditions:
The term Shareware describes a marketing method in which copyrighted programs
circulate freely among users for the purpose of evaluation. This gives you
the option to "Try Before You Buy". The author of a Shareware program
typically allows you to try the program for up to 30 days before payment is
required. The exact terms of evaluation vary from author to author, so be
sure to check the documentation of the programs you evaluate.
The fee you pay to InfoMagic, Inc. is a distribution fee and does not cover
the cost of the program itself. Programs which are used beyond the author's
prescribed evaluation period require a separate payment to the author. By
making payment to the author you obtain a legal right to use the software, and
encourage the continued development of quality software within the Shareware
channel.
The process of paying for Shareware is termed "registration". The exact
benefits of registration vary from author to author, but many authors will
offer one or more of the following: a current version, technical support, a
printed manual, free or discounted upgrades, bonus utilities or special
offers. Consult the registration information included with each program for
specific details.
Some of the packages on this CD are covered by the General Public License, a
copy of which is in the file COPYING in the root directory of the first CD.
